Linseed Oil & Beeswax Polish
$23.00

The 100% natural wax polish contains raw linseed oil and natural beeswax in a 4:1 ratio. This polish can be used directly on bare wood, over painted surfaces, over polyurethane, shellac, lacquer and I have even used it outdoors on a work table.

The uses of wax are numerous and I love the raw linseed oil's natural scent and its ability to darken bare wood and its smooth coverage. I have made numerous videos showing both how to make wax polishes and showing how versatile the waxes can be.

How To Apply

To apply this wax/oil polish simply use either an old shirt, rag, steel wool or even a paper towel if you can't find anything else. Apply a thin coat, wait a few minutes and buff the work with a clean rag or paper towel. Paper towels tend to leave pieces on the work piece so be aware of that. I like to use a lint-free cloth if at all possible.

This container holds 4 fluid ounces of wax polish and the weight of the container with the polish is 4 1/2 ounces.

Tung Oil & Beeswax Polish
$28.00

This tung oil polish is not a "Tung Oil Finish" that mimics tung oil's properties or feel, this is real tung oil mixed with natural beeswax. There is a 4:1 mix of 100% Tung Oil and natural beeswax. This polish can be used directly on bare wood, over painted surfaces, over polyurethane, shellac, or lacquer.

I have made a few videos that show the procedure for making as well as a number of uses of waxes in general.

Cutting Board Mineral Oil & Beeswax Polish
$28.00

This is probably the most versatile polish of them all. Mineral oil does not cure (dry) so it is perfect for all sorts of uses. I use it to coat my tools, such as hand saws and table saws, and also the bottom of planes. All because when it is added to metal, wood or anything else it will not dry like linseed or tung oil would, which would gum up the tool.

I made sure the mineral oil here was the best I could get, and that it is food-grade cutting board oil. So for these I used General Finishes mineral oil and natural beeswax, which is also food safe.

I use this not just on cutting boards, but bread boards, tools, anything that slides and sometimes even as a final finish. Beeswax and oil based polishes are really so versatile you can really use it on anything. It will not damage any wood, in fact it will prevent rust and water-penetration on just about everything.

  • diagrams and images to clarify

To construct the main unit, you'll need a press screw and 2 inch (5 cm) thick wood. While slightly thinner wood can be used, the unit won't be as heavy and strong. We used white oak, a traditional choice for its durability. You will also need a piece of 1/4 inch aluminum (or steel) and some screws to assemble the screwing mechanism.

If you use a different type of press screw, you can still adapt the main principles of this design to fit the specifics of the materials you have on hand.
